This was the first print of mine that was purchased by the V&A and is my homage and gratitude to the women who endured so much discomfort, harassment and intimidation while I was too busy to take part.
The woman had pinned articles that were precious to them on the fence around the base: baby clothes and photographs. I positioned these so that they became “medals” on the chests of the soldiers looming in front of the women on the other side. The Man from the Ministry takes notes. The poster mocks that ubiquitous expression.
An elaborate show of male aggression defending their “secret” weapon which, half-hidden behind the screens, is not so impressive after all.
