My sister’s Springer Spaniel, Bosun, had the most phenomenal sense of smell. You could throw a stick he’d been carrying into a vast heap of sticks and he would soon recover it.
After so many years of engraving, I am still astonished that it is possible to depict the soft velvety folds of a dog’s puckered lips in a tough piece of wood.
