Vestige of Hope is about a glimmer of possibility in an otherwise tragic situation. It was inspired by a photograph I saw in the Guardian of the situation in Syria. The family are enjoying a colourful picnic, despite the rubble of their home surrounding them.
The group at the centre is a three-colour block wood engraving. The desolate landscape around the family is a linocut. Vestige of Hope measures 300 x 400mm and is a necessarily small edition.
Vestige of Hope has been selected for the Society of Wood Engravers’ 83rd Annual Exhibition. The exhibition will open at Bankside Gallery on 3rd February 2021 and will tour the UK. See the Society of Wood Engravers’ website for full details: http://www.woodengravers.co.uk
